Asked on NBC News' 'Meet the Press' on Sunday 16 August 2026 whether he would appeal to the Supreme Court the 22 cases the Justice Department has lost, Attorney General Todd Blanche said 'Absolutely, it's a possibility.' He added that the department is 'not going to stop doing what I think every American should expect us to do, which is make sure that we have elections that are fair,' and that for the department that means 'making sure that there are no constitutional legal violations, even at the state level.' The suits stem from an executive order Trump signed asking states to turn over their voter rolls, including names, dates of birth, residential addresses, state driver's licenses and the last four digits of Social Security numbers; the department has sued 30 states and Washington, D.C. for refusing to comply, and federal judges have agreed with at least 22 states that sought to block access.
