FBI seizes Fulton County's 2020 ballots and voter rolls
FBI agents raided the Fulton County elections warehouse in Union City, Georgia, and seized the county's physical ballots, ballot images and voter rolls from the 2020 election under a magistrate's order.
What happened
Agents were seen loading boxes of election documents onto trucks at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center. A court order signed by Magistrate Judge Catherine M. Salinas authorised the seizure. FBI agent Hugh Raymond Evans wrote in the warrant affidavit, later unsealed, that the criminal investigation originated in a referral from Kurt Olsen, the presidentially appointed Director of Election Security and Integrity. The county commission chair said he could no longer guarantee the ballots would remain safe and secure.
Why it matters
Custody of a county's ballots and voter rolls moved from the election office to federal law enforcement. Whatever the investigative theory, the chain of custody for a past election now runs through the executive branch.
