Qatar gifts Trump administration a $400M luxury Boeing 747
The government of Qatar gave the United States a retrofitted Boeing 747-8 valued at roughly $400 million, which the administration converted for use as Air Force One and which will transfer to the Trump presidential library foundation after he leaves office.
What happened
The plane, painted in Trump's preferred navy-and-gold livery, arrived at Joint Base Andrews and took its first official flight July 1, 2026. Reporting by CNN and others indicated the Trump administration, not Qatar, initiated the discussions, despite Trump characterizing it as an unsolicited gift.
Why it matters
Because the jet is slated to go to Trump's personal library foundation after his presidency rather than remaining in government service indefinitely, ethics watchdogs say it functions as a personal gift from a foreign government with extensive business and diplomatic interests before the U.S., raising emoluments concerns.
