Kennedy Center board re-adds Trump's name and votes to close the complex
The Trump-appointed Kennedy Center board voted on August 13, 2026 to close the arts complex's main building for a roughly two-year renovation and to put President Trump's name back on the center's entrance.
What happened
The vote was the board's second attempt to shut the complex: in May, the judge in a suit brought by Rep. Joyce Beatty temporarily blocked an earlier Trump closure plan. A federal judge had also ruled that President Trump's name was unlawfully added to the center, and its facade has since been covered by a tarp.
Why it matters
Re-inscribing the sitting president's name on a national cultural institution, through a board he chairs and appoints, and re-attempting a closure a court had blocked, fits the office-fused-with-the-man pattern the tracker follows; the substantive dispute remains before the court.
