An intelligence chief who would not say who won 2020
The Senate confirms Jay Clayton as Director of National Intelligence on a party-line vote; in confirmation hearings he repeatedly refused to say that Joe Biden won the 2020 election.
What happened
All Republicans supported the nomination and all Democrats opposed it. Clayton also declined to say that Trump had lost the 2020 election.
Why it matters
The official who arbitrates what the intelligence community tells the government about foreign interference now arrives having declined, in his confirmation hearings, to state the result of the last election he would be reporting on.
