Trump picks his own Doral resort to host 2026 G20 summit
On September 5, 2025, Trump announced that the 2026 G20 leaders' summit would be held at Trump National Doral, the Miami-area resort he still owns and profits from. No selection process has been disclosed.
What happened
Trump made the announcement in the Oval Office. The White House said Doral would host "at-cost, and will receive no profit from either the State Department or a foreign government." Neither the White House nor the State Department has said how, the ethics watchdog CREW reported in April 2026. The State Department set bidding requirements in the Federal Register for the smaller G20 meetings, but it has produced no proposal from Miami or any other city for the leaders' summit, CREW reported. CREW is suing the State Department and the Secret Service for the selection records. The summit is set for December 14–15, 2026.
Why it matters
Trump put a summit of the world's largest economies at a resort he owns, bringing, by his own account, "millions and millions of dollars" in spending. He tried the same with the 2020 G7 at Doral and backed down after an outcry. Profit from foreign governments would be barred by the Constitution's Emoluments Clauses unless Congress consented, CREW notes; the White House says Doral will take none.
