Trump launches the $TRUMP meme coin
Trump launched the $TRUMP meme coin on Solana days before his inauguration; entities tied to the family hold a large share and collect trading fees.
What happened
Trump's 2025 financial disclosure reported $635M in royalties from the memecoin's licensing agreement, part of $1.4B from crypto ventures. That $635M is a component of the aggregate held by money-2026-06-30-063 (the 927-page 2025 OGE disclosure, released 2026-06-30), which holds the count; this row is logged, not counted, and stays as the receipt for the launch itself. The token later fell more than 97% from its peak; Nansen found that 988,905 buyers lost a combined $3.81 billion through the end of June 2026.
Why it matters
The Trump family and affiliated entities launched the $TRUMP meme coin and, through two entities holding 80% of the supply and earning royalties and transaction fees each time it trades, disclosed $635M in royalties. Anyone in the world can buy the token while concealing their identity, and a Bloomberg analysis in May 2025 found that 76% of the value held by the top 220 wallets likely belonged to foreign owners. Every trade can put money in a sitting president's hands, and the buyer does not have to say who they are.
