Paramount settles Trump '60 Minutes' suit for $16 million
Paramount Global agreed to pay $16 million to settle Trump's lawsuit over CBS's editing of a '60 Minutes' interview with Kamala Harris.
What happened
Announced July 2, 2025, the settlement included no apology; Paramount said the $16 million, including plaintiffs' fees and costs, would not be paid to Trump directly but allocated to his future presidential library. The agreement came as Paramount sought the Trump administration's approval for its merger with Skydance Media. Trump's 2025 financial disclosure lists $16 million in net proceeds paid to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation, Inc. It is counted in the take.
Why it matters
Paramount paid $16 million toward Trump's library to settle a suit in which he claimed, without evidence, that '60 Minutes' edited a Kamala Harris interview to hurt him, a suit legal experts called frivolous. Its merger with Skydance needed the Trump administration's approval, and about three weeks later his FCC gave it, 2-1 along party lines. Two days before the vote, Trump posted that Paramount's current and future owners had made "over $36 Million Dollars" in commitments to him. Paramount and the FCC said the payment was unrelated to the merger review.
