Meta settles Trump account-suspension suit for $25 million

Meta agreed to pay about $25 million to settle Trump's lawsuit over the suspension of his accounts after January 6, 2021.

What happened

The settlement, signed at the White House on January 29, 2025, called for roughly $25 million; Meta confirmed $22 million for Trump's presidential library and $3 million in legal fees. Trump's 2025 financial disclosure lists $24.5 million in net proceeds paid to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation, Inc. The settlement came after Zuckerberg had worked to ingratiate himself with Trump, donating $1 million to his inauguration. It is counted in the take.

Why it matters

Meta settled Trump's suit for about $25 million, and $24.5 million of it landed in his library foundation, while the Federal Trade Commission was suing Meta in an antitrust case that could force it to spin off Instagram and WhatsApp. The company paying the president's foundation was being sued by his government.
