Justin Sun sues World Liberty Financial, saying it froze his $75 million stake and threatened to burn his tokens unless he kept investing

On April 21, 2026 Justin Sun, the Tron founder who had invested about $75 million in the Trump family's World Liberty Financial, sued the company in federal court in California. His complaint says World Liberty froze his WLFI tokens in September 2025 using a blacklist function in the coin's own contract, stripped his governance rights, and threatened to burn his tokens and report him to U.S. authorities over KYC violations unless he continued investing. The suit came six weeks after the SEC dismissed its fraud case against him.

What happened

Sun bought $30 million of WLFI in late 2024 and raised his position to about $75 million; he became an adviser to World Liberty. In September 2025 the company blacklisted his wallet after he moved roughly $9 million of tokens, which he described as routine test deposits; his position was then worth more than $100 million (Unchained, 2026-04-22). Sun said publicly in September 2025 that his $75 million in tokens had been "unreasonably frozen" and sought a resolution (Malay Mail relaying Reuters, 2025-09-06). The April 2026 complaint alleges fraud and an unlawful token freeze, and opposes a governance proposal published April 15, 2026 that would impose new vesting terms and burn tokens. No dollar figure is counted: this row records a dispute over an investment already carried on money-2025-02-26-010 and money-2026-03-05-072, not new money to the family.

Why it matters

The largest individual investor in the president's family crypto firm says the firm used its own contract to lock him out and pressure him for more money, weeks after the federal government dropped its case against him. The relief came from the government; the squeeze came from the family. It is the first documented instance of a World Liberty investor turning on the company in court, and it shows the freeze power that a stablecoin issuer holds over its own holders, exercised against a $75 million backer. World Liberty has not, in the sources opened, responded to the complaint.
